According to a recent report by Future Market Insights (FMI), the global interventional radiology market is expected to grow at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 5.4% during forecast period of 2022-2032. This growth is most likely attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic. As people considered the seriousness of co-morbidities as a leading factor that could lead to hospitalization or worse, a rise in intervention radiology market rose subsequently.  Moreover, with a decrease in office visits with a primary care physician, the demand for specialists such as Interventional Radiologists, rose as well.

Dr. James Silberzweig, MD, has been practicing interventional radiology for 27 years, and opened his own practice, Central Park Beauty, in 2015. He is board certified in Diagnostic Radiology and Vascular & Interventional Radiology. His work includes uterine fibroid embolization, fallopian tube recanalization, and hysterosalpingography (HSG) procedures. Approximately one third of his patients seek HSG exams.

As many medical facilities had to pivot during the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Silberzweig and his staff did as well. His practice took many precautions to ensure the proper safety guidelines were followed.  After a brief pause in March 2020, his practice re-opened a month later for medical procedures exclusively, particularly for HSG procedures. “Following the initial pause, many of the fertility practices resumed clinical activities in early April. Several of the practices started seeing patients using telemedicine for consultation appointments,” explained Dr. Silberzweig. Additionally, his aesthetic services resumed slowly thereafter.

Dr. Silberzweig has recently noticed some trends within the HSG patient community. “Patients arrive at the office better informed and prepared about the procedure,” he said. “Patients receive counseling from their fertility specialist and read about the procedure online before arriving at the office,” he added.  Dr. Silberzweig empathizes with his patients going through their fertility journey and encourages questions before, during, and after the procedure. “Since our radiology services are more limited in scope, we are able to offer a high level of expertise, as well as a more comfortable patient environment,” he said. The patient’s comfort is very important to Dr. Silberzweig and his staff. “We are always happy to hear when patients tell us that the appointment was quick and relatively painless, and we were able to exceed their expectations,” he added.

Understandably, patients tend to be apprehensive about the procedure so ensuring a quick and comfortable experience is essential. Thomas Medical is proud to provide Dr. Silberzweig with the instruments and devices he needs to reliably diagnose blockages, occlusions, or abnormalities in real time. “The Thomas Medical HSG Catheters are easy to use and are of consistent high quality,” Dr. Silberzweig explained.
